Mathematics-oriented education is organised in Tupos School, starting from the 7th grade. Mathematics is one of the important basic subjects in school, and mathematical skills are important in working life and in society in general. Pupils from anywhere in the municipality can apply for the mathematics-oriented education in Tupos School. The mathematics-oriented class is intended for pupils that are inspired to learn mathematics, like challenges and possess sufficient base knowledge.
Studying in mathematics-oriented class permits faster progress and more thorough study of things. Teaching makes use of different working methods and diverse problem-solving tasks. Mathematics-oriented education also provides an opportunity to get acquainted with coding and other IT applications.
If the students progress faster than usual in lower secondary mathematics, it is possible to explore upper secondary mathematics in the ninth grade. In practice, there is one extra lesson of mathematics in the 7th grade and the short optional subject in the 8th grade is selected from mathematics and sciences. Otherwise, studies in emphasised education correspond to studies in other mathematics groups.
