Coronavirus testing

If you suspect a coronavirus infection and syptoms are mild, you don’t need to go to health care for testing. The most important thing is to be sick at home.

However, there are some exceptions and these groups are listed below:

  • Sote employees
  • Pregnant women
  • Those who belong to risk group

Person with mild syptoms can make home test if it is needed. As a rule, a positive home test does not need to be verified by healthcare.

However, in certain situations you should take official test in public healthcare, they are listed below:

  • you need a certificate from your employer about the corona virus
  • if you need a corona passport (you have not been vaccinated twice)
  • you need an official infectious certificate from Kela for yourself or your child’s illness

If you are asymptomatic and need a negative test in travel situations to enter the country, testing is done at your own expense (you shouldn’t use public healthcare).

Gudeline to being sick at home in case of coronavirus infection:
A person with a corona-positive result stays home sick for at least 5 days from the onset of symptoms. You can return to work/school/daycare after 5 days, if you are fever-free and the symptoms have decreased. Asymptomatic persons living in the same household as a positive person can move normally regardless of their vaccination status.

If you cannot communicate in Finnish, Swedish or English, you can have multilingual councelling from the City of Oulu. If you need care or are in need of care assessment, call 116 117. You will receive information on how to proceed and, if necessary, you will be directed to the corona reception centre or a test. In emergencies, always call 112.
